Another random selection of some this and some that.

After barely scratching the surface of my varying collection of correspondences Friday, I still have a backlog of items worthy of your attention, so if it pleases you, open up and saw ahhhh;

Before we get into anything I will go on record and say that at the beginning of December, after watching my imac’s spinning wheel of death for the umpteenth time and the umteenth hour, I broke my bank and purchases a brand new, and shiny upgrade. It worked splendidly until the motherboard shit the bed (that’s the technical term). The good people at Apple took my computer back, kept it for a week and replaced said item. I got it back again when five weeks later, the screen inexplicably went black. Once again I returned it, upon which they asked if I would simply like a new machine. I enthusiastically said yes, and they swapped out all of my data to another brand new and shiny naked lady box.
Now the upgrade of the iphoto software is completely different and sucking ten tons of balls.
Such is life when you rely on technology. Truth be told, I rather long for the days when anything in my life that failed, I was able to fix. Of course this means that I would be back to stripping threads or bending nails, but the grass is always greener I suppose.
That said, if every post from here on out just exclusively contains this image;

You’ll understand why.
Now let’s get into other matters of business. As I mentioned last week, my dear friends from Oakland’s FTW Tattoo recently threw a ten year anniversary bash. It was a delightful night filled with delightful people, all of which can easily be encapsulated by the following two photos shot by the lovely and talented Ellie Geyer Blackbird Bazaar;

Yeah, it was that kind of night.
Easily one of the highlights of the evening for me however was when an absolute wall of a man entered the room and I asked my friend Ed what his story was. “Oh, that’s Robert Gallery” he responded nonchalantly. “He plays for the Oakland Raiders.”

After being introduced to him, we spent the next hour chatting, and I have to say that he was one of the nicest people I’ve met in a long time. At our conversation’s conclusion, we slapped hands and gave one another a bro hug when it dawned on me that at six feet one inch tall, my ear was perfectly level with his chest. Sadly I am unaware of any photographic evidence of this exchange, but this one up to and including to what we both happened to be wearing on this night, adequately illustrates the scene in question;

Anyway, should you ever be fortunate enough to cross paths with him, offer him a hello and a hand shake. He’s one of the good guys.
In other news of parties, and partying, and getting partied, Ben from the Handsome line of bicycles, and bicycle related do-dads contacted me with an event flyer that will be one to attend;

Make note that their event is occurring this coming weekend, so you will surely have time to get your ascot washed.
You know, Portland East has a knack of throwing consistently epic bashes like no other place I’ve ever been, (with the exception of Copenhagen and that is only because hash is more readily available there), so it should come as no surprise that this past weekend’s Stuporbowl was once again one for the ages;

Photo graciously provided by Mark Emery.
Of course you could watch this 25 minute long video to get the scoop regarding the history of the event;

or you could simply rely on the event report that was sent to me by this week’s header photo contributor, Scott Showen;
“i got so wasted, fell down some stairs, crashed my bike at some point. i only know this cause of the scab on my knee. i don’t know how or when i got back to the hotel. i do remember geno saying “i’m so fucking high.” like 5 times in a half hour. rad.”
It says a lot without saying hardly anything at all.
I have mentioned sometime recently that I have added a selection of patches to my collection of Black Market paraphernalia, but did you know that Pentabike also has just taken delivery of patches as well?

It’s true, he has. As I have said before, the two of us tend to think with the same ball, so it’s no surprise that we should have both released these simultaneously. Get cracking and make your faux rabbit fur vest look just that much more dashing.
Also in news of items that you’ll need in order to complete your uniform, Billy Souphorse notified me that fixed gear fashionista, Prolly (who also should be noted has recently stated that he doesn’t need skinny jeans to have his clothes fit well, because he’s got muscles for that) is teaming up with DZR shoes to make his very own signature model;

Paling in comparison to the forthcoming Reef/ Black Market flip flop, I still feel the need to mention it if only to ensure that no fixed gear freestyler ever has to go without shoes again.
Finally, and while we’re on the topic of other accessories that no self respecting mall rat should be without, I came across the Marc Jacobs ‘Subhumans’ bag, ironically while attending the aforementioned FTW party;

After choking back the urge to burn the bar down on general principal, I quickly made a note to investigate during my next adventure through the Googles to see if you might get one of these with every purchase;

At the time of publishing today’s post, I can neither confirm or deny this query.
Rest assured though dear reader, come hell or high water I will tirelessly search out the answer that we seek.
You know.. That is until my computer breaks again.

    Robert Gallery IS one of the good guys. He does the state of Iowa proud.
    Unlike, me. I’ve been asked by the governor to leave and never come back.

    I’m guessing those shoes are “fixed gear specific” so you prolly can’t untie them.

    Taqueria El Chipotle (not to be confused with the shitty nat’l chain) next to Soquel Post Office has been closed for the past couple weeks because they had to replace their oven hood and ceiling.
    They’ll be opening back up on Wednesday, and I’ve been told they’ll be offering free breakfast.
    I’m not sure if that extends to non-regulars, but it’s definitely worth checking out, as their breakfast burritos are mind-blowing.

    I was skeptical twenty-five years ago, but now I’m confident I have witnessed the day the country died. Didn’t Marc Jacobs design (or was it sniff?) Kim Gordon’s panties?

    The jacket was perfect until someone added Screeching Weasel.
