I’m outta here.

The family truckster is packed and I’m headed towards my destiny.

As I mentioned at the head of the week, I’m currently en route to the home of Minneapolis West Design Works, who is hosting a throw down this weekend that guarantees at least several dozen headaches and no fewer than two broken collar bones;
circflyercropped.jpg
This bash is being treated to the funky sounds of one DJ Amanda, who you are assuredly familair with as being the tattooed, bespectacled and rug cutting sprite from 21st Avenue Bikes;

Secondly, I have made contact with several of my operatives there, not the least of which are the enigmas they call ‘Stan Beaver’ and ‘Manbreaker’;
cheevermanbreakerandme.jpg
Stan, Manbreaker and myself at ‘Futon Summit 2008’.
I’ve seen Stan barfing and naked more than I’ve seen him not, and Manbreaker’s ass had it’s own Facebook page, so what could possibly go wrong?
As I said, there eventually will be some words regarding the matter in, on, or around the pages of Paved Magazine, coupled with the handsome photographic images of DWP.
This is to say handsome photos taken by him.. Not necessarily of him, though that’s not entirely out of the question.
In other news, while flim-flazzeming about the interwebs, I found the following clip via Morgan;

Not a single person depicted therein isn’t high as hell.
Let’s see.. What else is going on?
Ahh yes… Just a few days ago I was having a telephone discussion with Zoltron (he actually speaks through an Autotune, so I have no idea what his voice actually sounds like) and he mentioned that he’d just finished up, and was launching the newest release from his poster factory;

These are very limited in number, so if you happen to have a thing for Soundgarden or their particular brand of aesthetics, (they’ve never been my cup of tea, though ‘Ultramega OK’ was pretty good, and I have always been partial to Kim Thayil’s guitar sounds) alls you gotta do is go here.
If you are more in the market for a bicycle made by the hands of a master than a poster, might I direct you to the plea recently sent to me by Bruce Gordon’s man-servant;
“I know Bruce has a reputation as a sky-is-falling, glass-is-empty kind of a guy, but we could really be on the way out if orders don’t start to come our way. Anyone who wants a world-class, custom-built Road/Cross/Track/Touring/Mountain frame in their hands in 4-6 weeks can get it started today.
I hope all’s well in Black Market country.
-Nick”

To call Bruce a ‘glass-is-empty’ kind of guy would be an affront to his general level of pessimism. I can say such a thing because I’ve known him for many years, and have on more than one occasion wished him a happy Father’s Day.
That said, his dour side and my own are very much cut from the same cloth. I have a great deal of respect for the guy and would hate to see him close up shop. After Albert Eisentraut stopped making bikes several years ago (not because his business was waining, but because he was burnt out), Bruce is as close as this county has to frame building royalty. Throw the old grouch some duckets and get yourself in the queue for a new bike. The only downside is that you would actually have to speak with him about it, and if you have a thin skin could result in your panties getting bunched;

If the following image means anything to you, you know what I’m talking about;

It is with that, that I zip up my pants, padlock my carry on, and bid you adü until Wednesday, the 27th of July.
Keep the home fires burning, especially if a school bus is involved.

    Should our paths cross again, I’ll regale you with my Soundgarden story. It ends with “and for those few seconds I literally held Chris Cornell’s life in my hands”.

    I swear I saw Bob Ross in the crowd at that Repack race.

    Nice clip. Reminds me of when I could watch tv without losing my temper.

    Stevil,
    Thanks for posting that old Repack vid. The Appetite Seminar was actually my first ever mountain bike ride and I was in hook, line and sinker. And if the ride itself didn’t do it, meeting Jacquie and Charlie through mutual friends, hanging out at their pad after the ride, getting my first taste of smuggled Fat Tire and getting a tour of Charlie’s basement shop had me feeling pretty lucky as introductions to a new niche of sport go. I’m quite sure that even on my brandy new Stumpy I still couldn’t touch Fischy’s times from back then.
    Maybe I’m not high enough.

    Deanna held hands with Cornell for 5 seconds at a Beautiful South show in 1992. Magic, no?
