We’re all pink on the inside.

Hello and good Monday to yinz.

As occurs nearly thrice weekly, I have a truck load of crap to shovel, so please do me the favor of laying back, and letting me bury you.

Sometimes in the twilight of last week, my buddy Lyle shot me a text and said “Hey, we’re having drinks at Mission Workshop on Friday. You should roll through.

I said “WHY, I VERY MUCH LIKE BOTH DRINKS AND ROLLING THROUGH PLACES. THANK YOU FRIEND.

So on a rainy friday evening, I set out in the dark to make my way there to see what was what.

Not only were there enough beautiful people (and fancy goods) from every walk to fill my eyeballs;

But on the evening in question, they debuted a documetary called Out Of Steppe;

A handful of skateboarders from all over the world go have an adventure in Mongolia, and learn about the socioeconomic climate, the cultures, and its general environment?

That would be the short version.

Because it was so exceptionally well done, I’d very much like to watch the film again in its entirety when I’m not fueled by exhaustion and tequila.

I’m not sure if it’s still making the rounds but certainly, if you happen to get the opportunity to watch it for yourselves, I would encourage it.

Waking up at o’dark thirty the following morning I was reflecting on just how good I felt given the lack of sleep and abundance of libations. Then I scrolled through my camera, find this image, and wondered how he was feeling;
rough night
Probably not quite as perky as me.

It was a good thing too, because shortly after the sun rose, a fella with whom I share duties at DirtRag Magazine named Bama rolled through town for a visit. Together we covered all manner of topics, and on Saturday morning even rode some bikes together;

Eventually we crossed paths with another individual I know named Morgan, who among his myriad of duties is one of the coaches for the high school league’s Oakland composite team.

Anyway, as we’re sitting there eating some beef jerky, and I’m improperly utilizing the Stashers I mentioned in Friday’s post;
bagwstashers
Morgan mentions that a young woman in the U23 had just gotten busted at Worlds for having a mechanically assisted bike;
World Championships Cyclocross in Zolder 2016 vr U23
I had to come home and investigate for myself.

Well, I’ll be gawldanged.

Besides that, I eventually came to learn of this;
VanderHarr
I can’t help but assume I’ll somehow be blamed for it.

Anyway as Bama very astutely pointed out regarding the motor- if the U23 folks have it, then you know everyone has it because the kids most certainly don’t have access to the hot shiz first. The sad thing is that the UCI most likely made an example out of Van den Driessche because she was a small but extremely visible fish, simply to send a message to the community at large (and more obvioulsy, professional teams). Popping a pro man at the Giro would be too much of a scandal. Pull the rug out of under a U23 woman? Much less collateral damage.

Maybe. Or maybe I’m way off.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

Winning by any means necessary. It’s not just in cycling. It’s everywhere, in all aspects of life and it’s a real bummer.

Personally, I’ve never felt the urge to cheat, lie, or fabricate who I am or where I come from to achieve a greater level of success at anything I do. I will forever be marginally successful, and I’m ok with that. I feel as though this here readership might subscribe to a similar mode of operation, albeit perhaps a smidge less self deprecating.

Though we’re all pink on the inside, I suppose perhaps some of our shades are a wee bit more honest than others.

    From the article on mech doping; “He said that such detection technology has evolved lately and was able to immediately detect that something was wrong”
    Wow. Really. Yeah, UCI needs that crazy new detection technology to detect if a bike is motorized.
    A pile of batteries and machined Aluminium centred around the bb/st junction isn’t going to be light…..

      Riders popped for mechanical doping at UCI CX WC = 1 (at least).
      Riders popped for mechanical doping at SSCXWC = 0.
      Chew on that.

        However if there was testing, the riders on drugs at the SSWC would be around 100%.

    Quite the image capture you made there, makes me think. What camera did you use? It has the short depth of focus Going bigtime. An effect or an actual lense?

      It was actually Instagram tilt shift filter in radial mode. I like that look.

        Nice work! I’ve got a massive $$ camera system, and that look is hard to get. I wonder how that dude is doing now? Dang.
