aye aye, captain.

Before we get into the meat of today’s post, I would first like to make a final announcement regarding the current AHTBM shirt of the month;

If you’d like to get in on this, I’ve extended the order window a bit to make up for the holiday weekend, so alls you gotta do is go here, and place your order before tonight, when I shut it down forever.

Now then- Let’s get on with both stuff and things.

Before publishing Wednesday’s post, I first had phone conversations with both Mr. Blacksocks, and Joseph Trent Parkin (Has Nice Hair) pictured below looking contemplate-ie, and on the phone, as I suspected they might have during our talks;

Strangely, about this same time, I by chance looked at my pocket computer, and by no doing of my own, there happened to be opened up on the interwebs the very first post I wrote about these kits when they were launched.

Both MBS and JPHNH echoed exactly what folks have declared between here and the AHTBM FB post, (except for one person who first said I should rebrand, and then later said to forget what he said.)

I do appreciate folks taking the time to share their thoughts on the matter, and in no uncertain terms, telling me to buck up and stand my ground.

So that tears it. What we have here is ours, and no mouth breathing idiot outsider is going to dictate how we present, engage, exchange, or resist;

Now that we have those matters deftly handled, I would like to present an article I found a few days go which has kept my emotional tanks topped right the hell off.

If you haven’t read it, you should, and if you have, I suggest it’s time for another go around;

As I stated elsewhere, just when I think the world is on the verge of crushing me, I come across this and if only for a moment, I can breathe again.

And speaking of being able to breathe, I hope that the last few days have given us all ample time to do just that. For my part I spent a good bit of my time away aboard a bike, and a board, and in my studio, and with friends and family.

One of said friends is this fellow, who way back in 1997 or whatever, was a Gary Fisher poster boy;

Having since retired from his job as man about town, and arm candy to tabloid hounded starlets, he’s settled down in a comfortable life, and just this past Saturday was surrounded by friends and family as we celebrated his 50th year on earth;

I don’t know what the hell is going on with all of these people around me getting older, because I haven’t aged a day since my 30s.

But as I scoured my archives looking for that smoldering image up there of my boy, I came across a number of other classic bits of fodder. Like for example this one of professional downhiller Lisa Sher, and her ace mechanic Jen ‘Jenry Rollins‘ Klish;

Or this one of handsome Big Dave atop his nearly equally handsome Inglis;

Or the first ever Blue Collar Bikes test and review;

Or this article, which twenty-one years ago effectively completed the foundation of exactly what sort of cyclist I wanted to be;

Boy howdy, the 90s were a glorious time to be alive, and of course, have a subscription to Bike.

Is it the same today? No, not really. Not better or worse… Just different.

Obviously, they can’t hold a candle to the 80s, during which time Captain Stubing was rubbing elbows and God only knows what other body parts with Andy Warhol, but they were still pretty sweet.
