Welcome back to the proverbial therapeutic chair.

Firstly, and obviously most importantly, I’d like to offer a very sincere congratulations to Brian Brooks on his victory in this year’s Nerd Off;

For obvious reasons, I had my money on Scott’s entry which was neck and neck with Brian’s through most of the voting process;

As soon as I get back from Colorado, I’ll get Brian his prize pack that’s worth at least tens of dollars.

Clearly I had hoped to garner more than the paltry few votes that I received for my masterpiece, ‘The Hell Camino’, but you know- Sometimes genius isn’t recognized at the time;

I have to say though, I do feel as if I deserve some sort of medal of honor considering I built the entire thing while standing in four inches of water.

Anyway, thanks to everybody who took part, and let’s promise to never do it again until next year.
As I noted on Wednesday, Chrome SF hosted a cocktail hour at their store on Friday, where Headquake RC videos played on the television, beers were drank, and discussions regarding that which most reasonable folks would be bored to tears by were had;

It was a nice gathering with nice people, and we were all happy to bathe in the absurdity of it all.

And circling back around to the topic of standing in water- I’m currently embroiled in week two and a half or some such shenanigans in my studio rebuild, which truthfully isn’t really a studio rebuild. I thought I was going to re-do the floors, but it turns out putting French drains along the outside of the house, and rebuilding the footing under the load bearing wall between said studio and my ‘service course’ seems to be doing the trick;

Luckily for me, I’m breaking free from this muddy abyss and by the time you read this will be on a flight headed to Colorado and the loving arms of my compatriots Joe and Laura from Soulrun.

There we will be riding bikes, and playing in the snow, and snuggling with dogs, and doing whatever it is people in Colorado do besides post photos of rainbows on the internet and take cyclocross seriously.

I’ll be bringing a computer with me, so with any luck, I’ll be able to get back to writing regular posts while I’m gone.

While I do look forward with great anticipation to being away, I recently learned that I have a little nugget to return to that came in the form of a Raleigh Stuntman;

Which, by the way, FedEx deftly FedExed;

Luckily it looks like everything on board was intact, and as soon as I get my shop brought back from the brink of disaster zone, I can get cracking on putting it together for the 2017 AHTBM team training camp, the visuals for which were provided by Jacob;

I mean, now that I have the jacket;

It’s only right that I should have the bike.

In news of businessie types of things, everybody’s friends at Feedback Sports tipped me off with a very good bit of news regarding their ever-increasing bid for world domination by two of their own.

The press release regarding the development reads like a press release, and is F-ING. BORING.

My version of the news is that my two homies Jeff Nitta and Katie Macarelli who are the wind beneath Feedback’s wings have just gotten keys to the executive bathroom.

Jeff’s now the Vice President;

and Katie’s moved on up to the esteemed role of Marketing Manager;

Mega congratulations go to both Katie and Jeff, and I expect that they’ll save a seat for me on their rocket ride to various meteoric successes.

Moving on from reasons to celebrate good people in life, to celebrating those who’ve left us, I got a shout from Devin about the passing of one of his crew;

Mr. Stevil,

I woke up last Tuesday morning to find out that we had lost another one of our brothers in arms.

Christian had just turned twenty five when he left us, and leaves behind a beautiful three year daughter Charlotte and girlfriend Brianna;

He was a wizard on 7 plys of pressed maple, always had a smile and just loved to skate. I met him when at the age of 40 I decided to get back after my first real love in life.. Riding a Rollerboard;

Photos courtesy of Jakob Keith.
He took me in to the tribe and along with my son and his crew we thrashed.

Their are few different memorials set up for his daughter and girlfriend so they don’t have to struggle in his absence. Check his memorial deck.

It never gets easier to say goodbye to anyone that leaves the world of the living and when they are young and still had so much more to give it seems even worse.

Be good to each other Smile .. Love.. Do Good Work.. If someone is hurting listen and reach out.. Ride Your Sk8board and never forget Christian.

Thanks Stevil

DmC

I’m so sorry to hear of his loss, and I appreciate Devin reaching out with some kind words about a person who meant so much to so many.

Finally, as I sift through the final bit of fodder before wrapping it up and going outside to deal with a tree that seems to have fallen down with this most recent round of weather;

-It was in this post when I first mentioned Maximo Supremo residents Portland Design Works’ effort in generating funds they were to very generously donate to the ACLU.

Well, thanks to those of you who bought product from their site last month, they just cut a gigantic novelty check to the Union for $8,500 dollars;

I like those kids, and I’m proud to be in the trenches with them.

Now all the ACLU is gonna have to do is get a gigantic novelty wallet to carry it in until they can get to the gigantic novelty bank to cash it.

It’s with that, I have to go find a chainsaw, and get back to breaking my body in my own personal proverbial therapeutic chair.

Spread this like it's sick

    Congrats Brian! I’m just happy one other person besides me voted for my ’57… Strong competition this year, upping my game next year.

    Super fun contest as always. Thanks for helping me realize my days and nights of glue sniffing, going blind while painting seatbelts, and OCD level decal placement , afflicts others as well. Look forward to next year!

    Ah shit, I set up this damn poll and forgot to vote. Since I have the buttons and keys I’m going to vote right now, but it still won’t change things. It’ll just make them more painful. Like everything lately.
