What the internet occasionally taketh away in time, it sometimes giveth back in bounty.

Last Friday the internet was an absolute bonanza. Some of these finds I shared on the Twitter, some I shared on the Tumblr, and some I shared on the Facebook. Today though, I’m going to wrap them up with a neat little bow, all right here for easy consumption.

Firstly, we have this bio on Erik Brunetti and his FUCT imprint;

I became a huge fan of this label when I was in college, and the more I learned about the man behind the brand, the more I became taken with it. It’s high time any documentation about him was made available;

Then Josh sent me an email that was both short, and sweet;

“If this were in color, I bet the jumpsuits just might be orange…”

The man on the left is actually my great great grandfather, Stephano Kinevilitini.

After these crossed my desk, I had to adjourn to the garage and unwind for a little while with the Crass Mass presents I bought for myself;

Speaking from experience, getting drunk and attempting to install the Avid Shorty Ultimates was a tall order. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Just last week I installed three different kinds of cantilever brakes on three different bikes, and though over the years I have had my fair share of challenges with the process (Mike Ferrentino once said something to the effect of ‘attempting to install and fine tune a set of cantilever brakes effectively proves the existence of the Antichrist’) I didn’t think I would have too much trouble with this set.

Right out of the gate I see that they come with two different washer/shim sets for a 21mm or 22mm brake boss.
I wasn’t even aware that they came in different lengths.

After playing with a number of different variations, I finally figured out the proper combination and got them installed and dialed in with quickness;

A negative I could pick out if I were asked would be all the 4mm allen heads. I’m a little suspicious of anything under five, especially when substantial torque is involved, but that said, I had no strippage issues whatsoever.

One detail that I was very fond of was that the stock straddle cable was little more than a shortened brake cable;

This gives me something to do with all of beaten and abused brake cables I have sitting in coils on the back of my work bench.
Throwing some new brakes on was a nice thank you for this bike which has been a tried and true steed in all senses of the words for seven and a half years;

It’s on its second powder coat job, its second fork, its second chain stay and was beneath me, then above me, then beneath me, then above me, and so on for what to date has been the most spectacular crash of my life. It’s been a cross bike and a touring bike and a mountain bike and a road bike for hundreds and thousands of miles, and has carried me in times of delirious joy and nearly devastating heartbreak.

You know… A new set of brakes was the least I could do.

Now that we’ve taken a little break, we can get back to Friday’s internet gold rush.

In response to this exchange, a sketch comedy group called The Straight Guys sent the following video;

Then through Life Behind Bars I find this print;

In the year 1995 I had the opportunity to buy my first fixed gear bicycle. It was a beautiful, albeit somewhat beat up Molteni orange classic Eddy Merckx conversion, though upon closer inspection I came to realize it was a knock off that someone had repainted and applied a decal set to. It was then that my friend Jen bought it and naming her bikes as she often did, affectionately dubbed it ‘Freddy Merckx’.

Well played Life Behind Bars. Well played indeed.

If all of the above weren’t enough to satisfy your cravings, from my old friend Nat in Southern France, I get the Harry Main edit dropped in my lap;

After Mia Tron graciously loaned me her copy of ‘Joe Kid On a Stingray’ last week so that I could finally watch the end of it, seeing Harry’s feats of unbelievable grace puts a whole lot of history that’s occurred in a reasonably short amount of time into perspective.
For those who might have an appreciation for the noisy, Luciernaga sent me a link for a track by a band called ‘Whores’ and their ear bleeding serenade, “Tell Me Something Scientific“;
Whores-Ruiner.jpg
As I prepare to take my leave, I’d like to mention that I spend a fair amount of time scanning the various channels to procure what I consider to be the best the web has to offer, and in doing so, I read numbers of headlines and articles which are darkly humorous, but never has one stopped me in my tracks before I even got around to reading the corresponding article.

This one that I found via Carl did;
Man misses mouse and shoots roommate, revealing child rapist.

In response, I did a ‘bomb sniffing dog’;

Did I tell you? Christmas came in spades this year in the form of some of the best stuff the internet has to offer.

Aside from the pornucopia that it is, but as they say, that is another matter for another time.

    Stephano Kinevilitini? You have finally gone too far. That’s it. I’m done with you until your next post. Harumph. ZMac®

    Oh the rabbit holes your posts lead me down.

    The Cowardly Butler happens every morning I read AHTBM.

    Hey Stevil, you got the straddle carrier facing backwards. It’s making it kind of awkward to loosen/tighten the screws holding the brake cable. Just sayin.
    Otherwise I commend you for the excellent choice. FYI, when I got the brakes last year, they didn’t include the washers. Had a lot of fun with one particular canti stud on an EDGE fork until I just said “Fuck it..” and used a file (moderately) to the rescue. Been a happy camper since.
    Also, I would personally go with Knob Creek.

    Oh, and also replace the bundled basic black road brake pads. They suck donkey balls as soon as you encounter anything else than a dry pavement. I’d personally go with the green GHP2 pads.

    TTE, I have always preferred to keep the hardware facing inward simply as an aesthetic choice. To access it, you release the straddle cable, flip the carrier and voila- easy access. Luckily, I’m the only one who has to work on my bikes, so even if it was problem, it would be no one’s but mine. And thanks for the pad tip. I have a huge back stock of Kool Stop pads to dip into when the need arrises.

    Alright, I give up. Where’s the photoshopped penis?
