The rehash of the old hash.

corned-beef-hash

Because of the laundry list of various social media outlets I have a loose grip upon, occasionally I will do some posting of this, or some posting of that on FacbookTwitterTumblr, etc., but then also buff it out for a final presentation here.

It’s not because there’s not a myriad of things from which to choose, but simply because the items I bring back around for a final turn here are, in my opinion, just too rich to leave be in those aforementioned spots.

Case in point is the following photo shot by Eddie Clark at this past whenever’s Cyclocrossing Nationals race in BoulderColorado WhereTheyTakeCyclocross AndAlsoApparently PatagoniaJacketsVerySeriously;
eddieclark
If you were to fall out of an airplane, by the looks of things, Boulder would be the cushiest place you could hope to land.

Secondly, and speaking of matching jackets, you might remember that positively cringeworthy Wilderness Collective video that made the rounds a couple years ago. Thanks to Todd, I came across this positively amazing site that tends to fairly efficiently skewer the Wilderness Collective’s bearded counterparts.

Like for example, in this post;

The most relevant outsider art associated with vintage choppers that we can think of is the denim vest. Over time it collects a man’s sweat, his filth, his blood, and eventually his soul.

Wait… What?

If I’m going to pay the low, low price of three hundred dollars, for a vest I expect for it to not collect my soul, but rather, for it to come with an additional one.

Certainly I appreciate American made products, and while I can’t disparage a group of people making a living, just like the Wilderness Collective, my gripe lies with its presentation.

Then again, if ever given the opportunity to sell orange cover-alls for three large, I’d salute my prison suited compatriots with both middle fingers while soaking in the roof top Jacuzzi on the limo that I was pulling away from them in.

And lastly, in closing of the fodder which has served as the wind beneath my wings as of late, from the generally NSFW, yet golden hearted dirtbags of The Whore Church, an image for reflection;
dioperlman
Never forget.

In news of simultaneously crying and barfing into your own hands, over the weekend word came down that Rebecca and Jon’s garage was forcefully entered, and Rebecca’s very custom Moots one speed was ripped off;
rebecca'sbaby
Literally everything on this bike is extremely unique, and she’s coughing up a $2000.00 reward for anyone who can get it back to her.

Folks nation wide, please keep an eye peeled for Rebecca’s girl.

Believe me when I say she’s absolutely heartbroken, though having a broken heart should be the least of the offender’s worries should he be caught.

In happier news, it was at some point over the weekend when I was approached by a young man who was on the street doing fund raising for a grassroots project called Hip Hop For Change. In his rapid fire introduction he made note of current trends in hip hop that focuses on wealth, misogyny, and other varying vapid fascinations, and the ill effects that his group sees it having on kids. He then went on to tell me about their efforts in promoting not only artists who preach the word of social change and community, but even community gardens.

I let him know straight away that as a young white kid in the mountains of Colorado, Public Enemy made a huge impression on me and I too felt as if commercially promoted rap groups were by and large complete garbage.

We slapped hands, I gave a donation, took a photo of him and his partner;
IMG_5589
-and then I offered them both free burritos, promising them that I would make mention of their efforts here.

Which for the attentive among us, I just did.

They are working hard to make the world a better place through art and music, which is a thing I can whole-heartedly get behind. If Hip Hop For Change’s work is a thing you feel as though you could get behind, make a donation, and keep them on your radar.

So, I have a question… Are there more than like, 30 working bicycle messengers (the ones that do court filings, and so on. Not the ones who deliver pints of ice-cream) left in America?

If there is, then the news that the 2014 NACCCs registration is now open should be of interest;

Like my dispatcher used to frequently say, “get hot, fat slug.

Real quick-like, I’d like reiterate I will soon be in Oregon doing Oregon-ie stuff.

This means Friday’s post might or might not be here.

This depends on A) how involved my packing process gets, and B) if I decided to leave my house between now and then.

This also means that Monday’s post will assuredly not be here.

Or it might be.

So there goes my tenuous grip I had on any semblance of an audience. It was fun while it lasted.

But before you flitter off into the distance, let me take the opportunity to remind folks that the FCC is just a few days away from making the decision regarding that Net Neutrality unpleasantness;

Please, for the love of all that is good and right, go to the FCC site, and offer a few thoughts on the matter;
gov-c5f9cb1c4a3541c8a3c9c793dd76a209
Just simply let them know that you feel as if the Internet is one of the greatest communication tools mankind has ever known, and as such should be continue to be equally accessible for everyone.

See? easy peasy.

So there we have that, and here in closing we have this from John;

Thereby proving that perhaps all hash isn’t necessarily good hash.

    If the Whore Church made the Carla is a Rainbow in the Dark shirt I’d probably wear it every day.

    The whole Clutch Monkey vid and corresponding posts poking fun at the nonsense of hipster “bikers” had me chortling mightily. However, there is a certain legitimacy to a spendy, hand made item. Maybe not a $300 vest (when one could go recycle and DIY), but having toiled in my shop over TIG’d frame sets, making less than I could have slinging java for the corresponding amount of time, I can appreciate paying a premium for something handmade in my own country, that was made with quality materials and construction, and paid a decent wage to the makers. Swazi apparel in New Zealand is a good example of this ethos, never mind pretty much every small frame builder in North Am. If you look at the Swazi stuff, you might think “WTF, I could buy that stuff for 1/2 of that from (insert made in China brand here)” and you would be right, however….
    Sorry, getting off on a tangent. Hipsters on choppers. The irony is agonizing.

    So Ed Whitaker vows to make Google pay to use his pipes, and now his lobbyist runs the agency that decided his pipes should not be regulated as a telcom service. And that agency is going to let his successor stick it to content while competition is a joke. Thanks for looking out for the public interest. No monopolies here…..

    This was fun..full of entertainment. I might like it even more-so because I counted 2 almost 3 times where u used the word, grip. Its alright to share weird habits here, yeah?

  8. dpow June 11, 2014 at 5:28 pm #

    By “Oregon-ie stuff” you mean going to strip clubs, sucker punching your liver and sleeping off hang overs, or are you going there for fun?

  9. Davey Simon June 11, 2014 at 6:07 pm #

    Yeah you should totally hype “conscious” hip hop here, instead of local trail building efforts. Good job.

    • JoshRVA June 11, 2014 at 6:43 pm #

      Really? Have you read anything on this blog other than this post?

    • Stevil June 12, 2014 at 3:20 am #

      Davey- This may very well be one of the top three most confusing comments ever written in this site’s nearly five years of existence. Would you like me to link the dozens of posts where I promote both local and national trail building efforts, as well as detail my own involvement in them, or shall I just leave it be, and let you find them yourself? Either way, good job right back at you.

      • Ben June 12, 2014 at 9:57 am #

        HA! This is almost a post in itself. Too much time in woods at Tamo Davey?

    When are hipsters going to go back to heroin and..just die already? Other people that wear vests:

    Parking attendants
    That weird club foot guy who gathers up shopping carts at Target
    crossing guards
    Some of the Village People

    perhaps vests aren’t so bad after all…..
