A long road ahead.

along road

Just simply in an attempt to preemptively explain any shift in flavor on this here site in the next couple of weeks, I will go ahead and say that my right wrist has recently forsaken me again in a spontaneous and catastrophic failure last week.

I’m in a fair amount of pain from my right palm to the middle of my forearm, making doing anything from opening a stuck jam jar to even something as simple as typing a fairly difficult process.

So with that said, please excuse any misspellings, or random bursts of quiet weeping.

On the upside, I’ve got a line on an appointment at this place, where I’m hopeful I will find a solution to my quandary.

It might take selling off all of my bikes, but at this stage in the game, desperate times are calling for desperate measures.

And if being gimpy wasn’t enough to take the wind out of my sails, today marks the third day of a two week Ayurvedic cleanse, which means a whole lot of apples, beets, water, random vegetables and various plates of food that look like this;

They say that which doesn’t kill us only serves to make us stronger, but I get the feeling that this will almost certainly result in the former over the latter.

One bit of solace however is that with my friends Bee recently down with a broken collarbone, and Jon down after getting nailed by a car;

-as well as a smattering of other recent individuals getting put on the injured reserved list, I feel not so alone in my pain.

To all of us I say I’m glad we’re not dead, and I wish us a speedy recovery.

In a bit of extraordinarily good news, those who have been following along with the saga of Kachusha “Chuey” Munkanta of Chuey Brand for the last couple of years will be glad to know that as of this past Friday, the ink has finally dried on the dismissal of all charges filed against him by the SFPD.

It’s been a mind numbingly turbulent process getting to this place, and the bureaucracy of the last six weeks has been excruciating, but what matters most is that The Man has backed down, and our hero is in the free and clear.

On behalf of Chuey, I can’t begin to thank everyone enough for their tireless involvement in this, be it contributing to his various fund raising efforts, by writing letters on his behalf, by being physically present at any of the functions organized to support him, or even at the very least, sending good thoughts his way, keeping him safe from the grasp of the system was most certainly a communal effort, for which we all deserve the highest of fives.

As I’ve said (probably inappropriately) a few times in the past, keeping Chuey out of prison was important to me for a number of reasons, not the least of which was because I didn’t want to find someone new to make my cycling caps.

And speaking of which- I would be remiss were I to not take the oppritunity to mention while I have recently trotted out the brand spanking new 2014 All Hail The Black Market cyclering chapeau;

I still have a few left of last year’s;

They’re attractive, well made, and crafted right here in the United States Of America by the handsome (and totally free) one called Chuey. What’s not to love?

In news of art that doesn’t suck, I’ve made repeated mentions of Damian Fulton’s installation at the Le Luz De Jesus gallery of his remaining Radical Rick panels.

Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t able to get to L.A. to see the show, but Jeff was, and he snapped off a couple shots for our consideration;

For those who can’t remember or who possibly were too young to care, Radical Rick was a monthly strip that ran in the back of BMX Plus! Magazine. As a young fellow, I was absolutely, positively enthralled with the adventures of Rick and his sidekick MX Mug. Secondly, as a drawer myself, I spent hours pouring over the line work, the colors, and the various panels in an attempt at perhaps teaching myself some similar skills.

As a matter of fact, and I know this is going to sound creepy, but when I was twelve, I found that a neighbor of a friend of mine was somehow related to Damian, and as such, had some of his original artwork in their home. We went over there one afternoon in an attempt at seeing it ourselves, but when we found them to be away, my friend took me around to the basement’s sliding glass door. Pressing our faces against it, we were able to capture a glimpse of his framed work in the darkened room.

My voyeuristic tendencies all started because of Radical Rick.

Naturally I was crushed that I was unable to go see the show for myself, but in a hugely financially irresponsible move, I called the gallery just before the show opened and purchased one of the panels for my very own;

Anyone can feel free to come over to take a look at it. Just make sure I’m not home when it happens.

Finally in conclusion, I’d like to bid a very fond farewell to Mr. James Garner;

What connection does James Garner have to the bicycle world“, you are possibly asking?

Well, truth be told, as far as I know, very little. That is, with the exception of Maverick Bikes renting his Las Vegas house to stay in for Interbike nine or ten years ago, and every single dirtbag in the industry converging on said house for a party at which we messed up the swimming pool with our filth.

As a matter of fact, at that very house, Sean Walling from Soulcraft Bikes gave me an eye patch on the very evening in question, solidifying our friendship forever.

So to Mr. Garner, I hope that your road ahead is filled with no dumb injuries, or cleanses, but rather, nothing but Rockfords forever.

    In a world of shit going sideways, Chuey’s acquittal is a ray of sunshine indeed.

      Agreed.
      Hm since a one word reply was ‘a bit too short, try again’
      I will add-
      You can say that again..

    The cops did their job well. They caused the system to suck money from simple people living simple lives. Lawyers jockeyed, charged ridiculous fees, courts charged for time, judges got their salary instead of empty dockets. I’m ecstatic Chuey was exonerated, but the man sucked all his, and our time and money to a bone dry penis before letting him go.
