Ghosts in the machine.

Ghost-In-The-Machines

So as the transition, and site rebuild over here has taken place, I’ve asked for, and received various bits of feedback from people who are not me, using computers that are not mine, in places where I’m not, just in order to ensure that all of the bugs are getting smoothed out smoothly.

Probably the number one concern that I’ve heard from folks is that updated posts aren’t showing up on their computers on a regular basis. As in, they go to the All Hail The Black Market url and all they see is the post from June 8th.

This was disconcerting to me, so I asked Caroline the web maven, and she replied like so;

These people are seeing the cached site. They need to refresh their browser or clear their caches. It’s not an error on our end. It’s just that old data is caught in their browser.

furthermore, Vaughn offered his perspective as well;

I cleared the cache days ago, nothing. Deleted the cookies and plugin data just now and that fixed it. Using Chrome. My connection to the lowlife highlife on the other side of the world has resumed its normal broadcast, success!

(Not that any of these people who are having this particular issue are reading these words I’ve written, because if they were, they would in fact still be stuck on June 8th’s post, but hell, I’ll still give myself an A for effort.)

This issue aside, I’ve heard that some folks are having a difficult time commenting. Not because they’re so move by what I’ve written that they can’t see through the tears, but because for some reason the new updates won’t allow it. This I can’t understand, because it’s still the same platform, it’s just a new server, and a few more visual bells and whistles. Anyway, I’m working these issues out in leaps and bounds, and any insight/patience the readership might have is as always, certainly appreciated.

Now then, here’s your daily affirmation of “It Could Always Be Worse. You Could Be Him”;

Now I love taking pleasure in other people’s misfortune as much as the next person, (what those zany Germans refer to as ‘schadenfreude’) but that arm bend things just makes it just a super bummer.

Anyway, there’s your cautionary tale of the day.

In news unrelated to fighting gravity, I’m sure folks are familiar with the eCool;
ECOOL-EARTH-BEER-COOLER-2
I’m sure that you are because I’ve brought it up here before at some point.

I can’t remember specifically what I said at the time but I’m sure it was something along the lines of “that is totally awesome, I’d love to have one, it’s really expensive, what if a beer got jammed in there and then you’d have to dig the whole contraption out and disassemble it, or ship it back to Denmark“, and then immediately reflected on my habit of burying beers in the woods for the cost of exactly $369.00 less;

Relating to beer, and bikes, only inasmuch the two relate to one another, which from my perspective is totally, I got sad news from Helllvetica Max regarding the passing of a woman who for all intent and purposes was European cyclocross’ matriarch;

Sad news from the Belgium. A familiar face every fall passed away;

Seeing her support Kevin every weekend was one of my favorite parts of watching cyclocross.

Thank you for always putting a smile on my face. Rest In Paradise, Bomma Fientje.

Over and out.

Max

May she rest in peace in a muddy land of friendly jeers, and refreshing beers forever.

Moving on… It’s come to my attention that there is now an e-bike Worlds;
2015-BionX-E-Bike-WM-02
I’m torn on how to respond to this.

On one hand, this atrocity mustn’t stand.

On the other, I was raised being taught that making fun of retarded people is wrong, so I do the best I can. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the e-bike World Champions;
ebikeclowns
For those who want to roll out the old chestnut of “well at least their riding bikes, blah blah blah“, save your breath. I’m not buying what you’re trying to sell.

Anyway, what to do, what to do? It’s truly a dilemma for the ages.

After having cried for help on the Twitters, Andrea offered the following solution;

With Andrea’s unfaltering strategery in my corner, it feels good to know I’m not in this plight alone.

Finally in closing, I’d like to say that I realize the end of the month has generally been reserved for them cop-outs, but I reckoned today’s business needed to take a front seat.

Worse case scenario, I can always blame it on the ghosts.

    My first viewing of that time trial fall left me laughing too hard to notice the arm bend ( well that and the fact that I also read this blog during my morning constitutional and therefore did not give the video my full attention)

    Oooo…. That’s gonna hurt. Perhaps he should consider racing e-bikes instead, no matter the risk of airborne snapping turtles.

    If you’re over 80 and you need a little help to make it over the hills by all means get an e-bike, otherwise riding one makes you a joke, just stay in your car.

    I ride more dirt bikes than mountain bikes these days, but still pedal a fair amount. The reactions that I get from the pro E-bike folks, most of them anyway, when I remind them that motorized vehicles can’t be on the non-motorized singletrack is usually pretty funny. They get mad. Shouldn’t have tried so hard to get moto trails shut down. E-bikes will be an issue moving forward, at least dirt bikes give people a little warning that someone is coming in hot, and around here the dirt bikers tend to be more polite to other trail users than alot of the mountain bikers.
