Now where was I?

Ah, yes… I was continuing with my attempts at figuring out what the hell has become of my life.

Considering the fact that I’ve spent the last few days hemming and hawing about which RC crawler to get, I can say with certainty that the answer to that is ‘very little‘.

For now, I will continue to live vicariously through the victories of those around me.

The Golden State Warriors, anyone who can momentarily excuse themselves from the upside down world in which we are currently residing, and my Shimano Gravel Project compatriot Air Wrecka, pictured here in the midst of our Rock Cobbler adventure;

She deftly took on all comers at this past weekend’s Dirty Kanza century, and with a crushing time of six hours and fifty-nine minutes, emerged on the top block for her efforts;

While I sit at home, fantasizing about playing with trucks, my teammates are out there setting the world on fire, and for that, as well as to Air Wrecka specifically;

-I offer a proud salute.

If the adage, ‘you are known by the company you keep‘ holds true, then thanks to her, as well as all of my Shimano Gravel ilk, I’ll forever be known as a dyed-in-the-wool honch.

And perhaps as I mention on Monday, a soon to be shut-in, born-again virgin;

I mean, uh… What?

I didn’t even know stuff like this existed.

The inner-nerd in me… You know- The same dick who spent a hundred hours in his basement the last few years playing with model cars? He’s absolutely laid flat by this revelation, and is even more befuddled by the prospect of investing a few hundred dollars which don’t really exist in the budget on a toy.

I have it on good authority that there are at least a handful of like-minded dorks in this site’s readership, so if anyone has a recommendation, or can point me in the right direction, I’m all ears.

If I ever thought asembling a cool custom bike was challenging, I now realize of was woefully incorrect.

Finally, and I suppose relating to both my gravel riding compatriots, as well as nerding out about wheeled things, I’d like to mention that I will be gone from my post on Friday, as I will be in southern California attending this show;

It relates to gravel, because on the night of the reception, I was actually in Minnesota, having just completed the Almanzo 100, (a thing of which I’m still quite proud). I was sad to miss the opening, but am looking quite forward to seeing the installation in its entirety.

As I mentioned in this post, this fella stopped by a month or so ago in order to pick up that infamous typewriter I’m currently the steward of.

While he was here, he also snagged my one remaining copy of the zine I made about taking possession of it that I understand is currently displayed along side of the machine. I appreciate the understanding during my absence, and we’ll rejoin forces at the time when we do.

That being said, instead of being here, I’ll be there, until I’m not, at which point I’ll be back here, which at least for the time being will be where I am until I’m not.

Spread this like it's sick

    6:59? Damn, that’s hustling. I’ve seen enough pics to know that it’s not downhill and glassy-smooth pavement. She must be strong, like bull!

    That little truck course looks like good times.
    Last summer, I wanted to touch-up the paint on a bike, so I looked for hobby shops around me (sadly, those are getting as hard to find as a good LBS, around here.) to go pick up a bottle of Testor’s. I’ll be darned if there wasn’t one just a few miles from my house, at the end of a strip mall according to The Goog. Bright and early the next Saturday morning I swung by the shop to see the parking lot jam-packed with vehicles. I assumed it must have been people at the Vape store, naturally. Turns out that the hobby shop not only was doing a model car “cruise-in” on the inside of the shop, but they were doing a rock-crawl outside for RC trucks. They had taken a 20-30′ strip of the embankment at the side of the parking lot and turned it into a rock course. There were probably at least 50 people running trucks and jeeps. They had coolers and chairs and easy-ups, it was a real to-do. I watched that for quite a while, it looked really fun.
    It made me want to pick up a truck or dune-buggy something fierce, but I had managed to squash the urge until you’ve been bringing it up lately. Damn, it’s back real hard, now. I spent Monday evening checking out that RC website for hours looking at all the fun goodies.

      Sorry about that, but misery obviously loves company.

    Dont buy the traxxas hype! I got my 8 year old an ecx barrage last year and fully geeked out on it. 150 bucks for the kit. The Axial Wraith is where i would start if i had the coin.

      I was looking at that too, but the high end Traxxas stuff looks super sweet. I’m probably just gonna stew about this for another year and then finally conclude it all by not doing anything.

        If you really want scale, check ou RC4WD. I’m in the same boat, I geek out on the stuff then think, do I really need that and don’t pull the trigger. Damn though! They look like awesome fun.
