Here we go.

By the time these words hit the internet, I will have pulled up stakes and moved on to destroy someone else’s reality, so before I get into what days 97- 105 looked like through my personal lens, I’d like to share one particularly impactful interaction right smack dab in the middle of the 100th day.

So, one night while sitting in a bar and nursing a beer by myself, I was having a phone conversation with Caro, and I mentioned looking towards the universe for signs and being receptive to whatever whims it chose to present. Just then I looked over my left shoulder and noticed a woman with long dark hair sitting at a table with a small chalkboard propped up next to her that read ‘$10.00 tarot’;

I gotta go” I said to her. “I think I just found a sign.

I saddled up in front of her as we introduced ourselves to one another. “I’m Stevil” I said. “I’m Sara“, she replied. “You don’t live here, do you?” she asked. “I used to” I began, “but it’s been a while.” “I didn’t think so.” she said. “I feel like if you did, I’d know you…

As she shuffled her deck, she asked what was going on with me, and not sure how much information I should allow, I simply explained in vague terms that I was on a bit of a walk about, and left it at that. Then, setting three stacks in front of me, she requested that I pick one. “I’m initially attracted to the right one, but tonight I’m going to mix it up, and pick the one in the middle” I said. She then picked three cards off that deck and turned them over;

The first card was The Blasted Tower, the second, The Three Of Pentacles, and the third, The Knight Of Wands, which I will try and explain as it was to me. The Blasted Tower indicates that my entire foundation is shaken, and I am currently existing in a world where I don’t know up from down, every day is wrought with sudden change, upheaval, chaos, revelation, and ultimately, awakening. Not giving up how agonizingly correct she was in this initial assessment, I sat stone faced while she then explained The Three Of Pentacles. “Despite the fact that your foundation is destroyed, you have unwavering support of those around you. Your friends, and family don’t question your decision to strike out and find yourself. This is a time of learning and determination.” Finally, as we got to the Knight Of Wands, she described a creative drive that while it’s an important thing to me, in some instances, is even more important to those around me. It’s a card of creativity, energy, passion, inspired action, adventure, and impulsiveness. The direction I’m going in my life’s journey both creatively, and personally is absolutely the right one, and though times might be difficult, it’s absolutely the correct path.

As I sat slack-jawed, she asked if any of that resonated with me.

I explained my entire situation, why I’m on the road, that I have no idea what the next day will bring, am not entirely sure where my home even is any longer, and to her final observation, that I’m engaged in both visual art, as well as consistent missives on this very website, for which I recently received an email from a person who explained that if it wasn’t for my efforts here, and the ‘How To Avoid The Bummer Life’ web project before, he was, as he put it, “100% certain that (he) would have killed himself.

You’re very good at this.” I offered. She smiled coyly and said that she was a fourth generation reader, and had always been something she was attracted to. We exchanged contact information, and parted ways.

Now, I feel like I retain a healthy level of skepticism about most things, but always remain open to any possibilities. Sara kinda blew my mind, and I plan on maintaining contact with her going forward. If by chance any part of this process sounds appealing, I encourage people to make contact. She said her website’s a month or two out from completion, but for the time being, folks can get in touch through the Instant Grahams.

Though she didn’t necessarily detail any perspectives I wasn’t already perhaps vaguely aware of, she most certainly articulated those feelings, and provided a deep resolve, and ultimately, confirmation that the direction I’m headed is the right one.

Having said all of that, please allow me to present the rest of the 15th week on the road;

Before;

After;

I had the supreme fortune of not only getting to see the work of Christian Rex Van Minnen, but getting to spend an hour and change with him during which time we chatted about bikes, art, traveling, compromising one’s best interests in pursuit of the creative process, the corruption of the art world, and his amazing paintings;

It was very exciting for me to be able to spend time with a person whose work I admire so much, and I appreciate him giving me the chance.

I also had the chance to see the work of Fred Stonehouse, with whom if you’re unfamiliar, you should make yourself so;

The installation is at the Robischon Gallery, and I suspect will be up for at least a month, if not longer, so if you find yourself in the lower part of downtown Denver, do yourself a favor and stop in for an eyeful.

Likewise, I got cultured at both the Kirkland Museum;

As well as the Denver Art Museum;

And speaking of which that longs to be gawked at, long time local underground music promoter Tom Headbanger’s entire collection of flyers, zines, and other artifacts are now permanently housed on the fifth floor of the Denver public library, so if you have a penchant for such a thing, make a plan to spend an afternoon perusing the selection;

Continuing on, I snapped a few more shots;

My time here has been well spent to say the least, and I thank all my friends both old, and new for embracing me, and supporting this leg of my journey.

It turns out it was as affirming as I could have imagined.

And it’s with that, I tip my hat with respect, and likely a fair bit of love, and get back whatever’s next, and wherever the road will ultimately lead.

Spread this like it's sick

    That’s pretty incredible, and I throw my hat into the crowd of people who are benefiting every time you post, and appreciate the content your creativity has generated over the years. The internet is full of bullshit and great shit and I still enjoy above all things looking for your next post. Keep taking care of yourself, and finding said self. Those skate banks look like a hell of a humdinger too.

    O.H. W.O.W.!! Knocked my socks off! Believing in the possibility of all things makes this ring true. You are on the right path, dear one. Also love that you sought and saw art.

    I get so much from you – don’t forget how you positively impact so many people.

    I am so glad you are finding resolution with this journey in one way or another – it has been a hard journey/struggle to watch – but I am so glad you are finding your way in all of this.

    holy crap. that’s amazing. I’ve always wondered if a fortune teller would have to say “I knew you were coming” as you walk in the door.

    Rather belated thanks for taking the time to see the artifacts I collected and sharing them out. When I donated all that stuff to the library back in 1998, I had no idea what they would do with it – there was a pretty good chance that they were just going to shred it all. But a couple of people at the library advocated for it, and they persevered, and my punk rock garbage (haha) is now part of the Western History Collection right next to goddam Buffalo Bill. It makes me happy and proud that people like you get to see it and hope it inspires you to promote the things you love, to make things, and connect to other people. Safe and happy travels.
