I’m back.

It was touch and go there for a bit and after spending four days in the balmy climate of San Diego, only to be faced with the prospect of returning to the cold, dark northland, I just about broke free, but alas, there are responsibilities to tend to at home, not the least of this is this here website.

And while I’m on the topic of maintaining this website, one of the things involved in said action is the utilization of it to spread education. The little nugget I’m about to lay on you was one that was shared with me by this peach, Ms. Bepy;

It would seem as though the hit television show ‘Three’s Company’ was not set in San Diego, but rather Santa Monica.

Now, I don’t know how close you’ve paid attention to this site in its thirteen years of existence, but in some way, every single time I’ve made a trip to San Diego I’ve referenced the show.

Every. Single. Time.

I mean, shit… I found two right here.

Jesus wept.

And at no time did anyone correct me.

The wild thing his that I had absolutely no reason to believe it was set in SD, it’s just at some point in my youth I made up my mind that it was there, and so off I went through life erroneously thinking the wrong thing.

And this wasn’t even the heaviest thing I learned while I was gone.

First things first though. So the entire reason I came to town in the first place was to see one of my favorite bands in the whole world;

I hollered at my homie Miki Vuckovich and got some shit squared away for my visit. We jimmied, and jockeyed, and for the first few days I stayed with a mutual friend Brooke, and spent hours walking all over the place, and drawing, and drinking coffee. Mostly it’s what I do best.

So for the sake of brevity, I’ll just fire off a slew of photos so you can see stuff that I saw that I thought was cool;

As my friend Meg told me, “you don’t find your drunken alter-ego’s name. It finds you”. And so it was;

Now then- Do you like more fun facts? At the beginning of today’s post, I mentioned heavy realizations, and now I have a doozy, so trip on this- This here is my friend Miki;

Back in 2018, I first introduced this particular audience to Miki in this post after meeting him at the 2018 Rock Cobbler, though as a super active skate and music photographer, I’ve been familiar with him for much longer.

So then, if connecting the ‘Three’s Company’ dots wasn’t enough of a mind scrambler, while at the Rocket show, at the beginning of their song ‘Glazed’, Vocalist Speedo smiles and points at Miki;

I look over to my right and Miki’s head lowers somewhat bashfully.

“Ohhhh”… I think to myself, quietly astonished… After listening to the song since its release in 1992 I was just then realizing- “He’s that Miki…”

Naturally I had to ask if he still cut his hair to watch it grow, though I can’t recall the answer.

And it’s with that, there you have your daily dose of random San Diego trivia, and you’re welcome.

Now then, being that today is November 8th, and we have no idea what state Democracy will be in tomorrow, I’d like to share an email I got from Alex about an effort to keep things from looking any more ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ than it already is;

Yo Stevil!

Sorry this took me so long to write up for you, the weekend got busy real fast.

In short, ever year the Witch Of The Woods Tattoo/Tarot studio here in Missoula puts on a pro-choice fundraiser for the Susan Wicklund fund. I donated a motorcycle to this year’s raffle;

“Tickets” are created for every $20 someone donates directly to the Susan Wicklund fund.

Folks only need to email their donation receipt to witchofthewoodsraffle(at)gmail(dot)com and we create raffle tickets for them. What’s great about this is that nobody is holding any funds, no tax implications, no fears about someone skimming from the top. It all goes DIRECTLY to the fund. Folks can save the receipt and write it off on their taxes too.

Full Information Here.

The Susan Wicklund is a non-profit organization that gives provides guidance, information and financial support to people that need abortions. They also help facilitate transportation and travel for people from other states seeking abortion healthcare in MT. This is really, really important as Montana is one of the last states in the region where abortion is still legal. Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota and North Dakota all have trigger bans. Some are already in effect, and some are enjoined or “waiting to be put into effect”. (Screenshot from CRR attached).

This means that for two of our neighboring states (and soon two others) abortion is effectively criminal. Anyone needing the process will have to travel out of state. As you likely know, these northwestern states are huge. Traveling across them to places is not only time-consuming but can be quite expensive. Planned Parenthood in MT offers free services to folks without incomes, and does operate on a sliding scale but when you are paycheck to paycheck, driving 500-600 miles round trip for an abortion can be itself a blocker.

Right now we are at $2400 worth of donations to the raffle. Hoping to get another 1-2K if possible before this coming Saturday. Nobody needs to be present to win and we have space to hold the motorcycle if needed while transportation out of state is arranged.

If you have any questions, concerns or need more info please let me know. If you made it this far, thank you very much for reading.

— Alex

Having laid all of that out, I would like to thank Alex for being a decent human being and secondly, (though it’s wholly unrelated), let folks know that I understand the weather in Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, South, or North Dakota at this time of year can be a bit of a challenge. If someone wanted to get out of the fridged climate, and come spend a nice, (albeit soggy) long weekend in Bellingham, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly at captainkinevil(at)gmail(dot)com. I have clean, warm accommodations, and would be more than happy to show you as much or as little of the town as you’d like.

As always, thank you for your time and consideration on this matter.

Finally, I’d like to turn your attention to the very newest episode of the 51st episode of Revolting;

In this week’s episode we discuss one of my favorite topics- the venerable battle vest, and as a visual reference I’ve included a picture of my oldest, and my newest;

Everyone has a blue or black battle best, but I have doubts that anyone would trust a guy with a white one.

Oh, and in the interim I found out that the term comes from WW2 pilots coming back from war and riding motorcycles together with their cuts. I don’t know why I didn’t do the rudimentary search of the term beforehand. Laziness? I forgot how to use the internet? Both things? Probably the answer is probably.

Though I’m back in body, but obviously not in mind.

Spread this like it's sick

    “…so off I went through life erroneously thinking the wrong thing.”

    Since erroneously means incorrectly, can one ever erroneously think the right thing? Or is that the key to it all?

    Asking for a friend.

      So would it I have been thinking the thing erroneously? I guess it would have. Words are hard for me.

    Google says it’s been about 30 years, but I’m still pretty sure that AMP B2 is the best bike.
