Some stuff about stuff.

Recently I was messaging with the fella who runs an IG feed called BMXtinct which if you like flawless examples of ’80s era BMX bikes and accessories such as these;

-you might want to give a follow.

In our exchange we began discussing growing up in a generation who poured over magazines, and memorized every photo, every caption, and every article. This conversation came at the heels of a piece I wrote for an upcoming project about the old SE Racing tour bus;

It was timely.

We lamented the fact that as a society, we’re so consistently bombarded by media, that nothing makes an impression. I began thinking about this, and making sort of a mental checklist of contemporary images that did make an impression on me in the same way that those old photos in skateboard and bike magazines did, and so with this in mind, compiled a few notables.

Like for example, this photo of my friend Aly shot by Tim Hardy;

Or this one of Scott Chapin getting rad on a cross bike at a Surf City race a number of years ago that I wasn’t able to find the original of so I reached out to Paul at Rock Lobster. In response he did me a solid and shot a photo of the photo, which is hung proudly in his shop;

If anybody can lend an assist in finding the original snap and the photographer in question, I’d appreciate it.

I like this photo Jong Atmosfera of a mama carrying her baby real well;

Or Courtney’s shot of Dan;

Or this photo my friend Jon took of his friend George;

Or how about this 2012 photo by Thomas Sweertvaegher;

It’s not a photo, per se, but rather a photo of a drawing- The King Diamond Dickbutt by Laney Oleniczak;

-Or this photo of Chef by Andrew;

-Or this shot by Hoss;

Or this shot by Brad McDonald of Vic Murphy;

Though it was taken in 1993, so I’d imagine it was film, but to be fair, it was digitized by the time I first saw it.

Similarly, this one shot by Matt Carroll;

If I really put my mind to it I could probably think of one or two more, but for obvious reasons these are a few among the tens (hundreds?) of thousands I’ve seen over the years that stick out.

Now then, while I was plowing through various feeds to track down the above fodder, I’d like to share the following article I found, which I quite enjoyed;

Here is to all women using their fists in a scientific fashion.

Having handled all of that, here’s a bit of news I will surely be trotting out with some frequency in the coming weeks. After three long years, Chris McNally and I have finally completed our book of drawings, which we will be embarking on a short tour with soon;

People have asked me if we’re going to LA, or SD, or points even beyond the west coast to which I have replied while I sincerely would like to, we have more money than we actually possess tied up in just the book production, and traveling to these three dates alone. It takes a lot of money to make a little bit of it.

Time will tell but for now, this is what we’ve got planned.

We will be signing books at all three of these dates, and once the ‘tour’ is over, will have them available for sale on this here website;

It’s sure to be wildly disappointing.

Now, right quick I would like to show you one of the only reasons I would like to go to Florida;

It just gets gnarlier every year.

I contend that once Skatopia got somewhat tamed, it created a vacuum which Swampfest has brilliantly filled.

Lastly, as I do on a weekly basis, I’d like to offer the brand newest episode of Revolting;

As I say every week- I’m sure that the good parts of it are exceptionally good, and the bad parts are worse. Or maybe it’s the other way around. I don’t know. After all, my opinion is biased. I like us, and what we do. It’s rare that I like things I do, so I’m gonna take this as a victory.

Take it or leave it. We’ll still be here tomorrow, pedaling our stuff.

Spread this like it's sick

    Cross Dress McNally is worthy of a National Geographic cover . “Off the Couch McNally “, quoted by Cameron , would show up to the Sick Sixtys without riding in weeks and put his balls out there for 10k. of climbing in Marin !

    Todays post made my dark heart momentarily enlarge.
    That Vic Murphy photo is hands down my personal favorite cycling related photo ever. Wish I could find a place to purchase a large print…
