Punching clouds.

Punching clouds.

Here we are at week four of eulogizing a friend who's died in as many weeks, the news of which left me breathless. Devin Curran, who's known by legions of people from Minneapolis to southern California was hit and killed by a vehicle early last week;

To see news reports depicting images of his prized yellow Santa Cruz mountain bike in a heap on the side of a Scottsdale roadway was gut-wrenchingly surreal. I don't wanna do this anymore, man. I feel leveled by this last month and the constant barrage of people moving on from this mortal coil. I realize it's a part of life, but when somebody gets hit and killed by a car, it just feels egregiously unnecessary.

It wasn't dark, it wasn't a winding road with blind corners. It was a fucking straight away with perfect visibility, and now his family and his community are without him.

If you knew Devin and feel compelled to those a buck or two towards his wife Anna, they have this GoFundMe page set up to help her with funeral arrangements and general cost of living expenses.

I hate to keep writing these things, and it goes without saying, Devin was one of the good guys;

Really, take a minute today and let the people who you love that you do. These reminders have been too much.

Moving on to other less aching topics-

Cranpa, formerly of FBM, currently of Radshare hollered with some feel-good news from the Wayback Machine;

"Stevil,

 More stoke for bike kooks, check it out!

xo

Cranman"

I always appreciate hearing from Steve, and getting a dose of his particular brand of good feelings.

Continuing on with other bike news…

Several months ago Handsome AK from Shimano America did me a super solid and hooked me up with the brand new Di2 GRX 12 speed group. It sat boxed for far longer than I would have liked, but factors like life, a perfectly functional existing group, broken ribs, and the fact that I was still traumatized from installing it the first time got in the way right up until the local Shimano honch Aaron Bradford invited me over for a work party with his gang;

It was a lovely few hours spent catching up and getting my whip primed for the upcoming season, whatever that looks like;

For now, I'm packing 'er all up for a leg stretch in points south, so a full report should be forthcoming.

Quickly before we wrap this up… Has anyone one here learned that Honda and Sony have come together and collaborated on a new smart car called the Afeela?

HOW ABOUT YOU GET AFEELA DEEZ NUTS?

You heard it here first, and you're welcome.

Now, because time is short and patience is thin, I'd going to direct your attention to a brand new episode of Revolting;

We can rail against the maddening, or we can laugh at the absurdity. Maybe at this point in our lives, it just makes the most sense to sometimes do a bit of both.
