A mixed bag of hodgepodge.

A mixed bag of hodgepodge.

Welcome to the latest installment of whateversville.

First things first, I keep buying rear lights, and I keep losing them/getting them stolen. At this point it's practically just part of my personality. Digging through my junk box a few weeks ago however, I happened to come across an old timey Planet Bike rear blinky (by the way, do us folks with epileptic tendencies a favor and make sure your rear light is out of blink mode and is just a plain old light. We really appreciate it).

Anyhü, after replacing the batteries, I was dwelling on the fact that it would always get turned on while in my bag, thus running the battery out while I wasn't using it. I was then struck with a bolt of inspiration that its designers maybe should have been;

What I did here was cut a Shoe Goo cap in half and JB Welded it on the back in order to keep the button isolated.

Am I the smartest, and prettiest girl in the whole room? You're goddamned right I am. If you suffer from he same plight, well then there's your solution.

Having said all of that, I'd like to describe a weekend jam-packed with SSCXWC shenanigans. Friday saw the introduction/shakedown ride which was my favorite format, being a eight hour, two hour ride. (That is to say, a ride that ordinarily would take two hours taking eight.);

In honor of Pineapple Bob, I spontaneously offered up some dough to anyone who could ride five consecutive figure eights in the sand but nobody could;

Then after a bunch of hours I returned home, got cleaned up, and went to work where I was hassled by Harpool, AKB, and Sally;

At some point a couple of months ago, Joe Hamilton from Kona Bikes let me know they'd been tapped to host a feats of strength stop on the qualifier day. Naturally, I dug into my Wednesday Night Ride playbook from the olden days and pulled out the tried and true hotdog hillclimb.

The method behind the madness was the rider either had to run a long set of stairs, or ride the shorter, albeit more technical chicane section, all one handed, all while eating a hotdog which may or may not have had habanero ketchup on it;

Eventually the aforementioned Sally showed up and the also aforementioned Amanda K .Bryan slapped the shit out of his belly;

After many, several hours of yelling at people through a megaphone, I again returned home, got cleaned up, and headed to work.

After barely peeling my eyes open a mere few hours later, Stan and Megan and I headed to the venue where even at that early hour, chaos was already ensuing.

But first here's a picture of a kitten some of the Hodala team found under the freeway;

I named her Rhino, but we'll see if it sticks.

Anyway, to the best of my recollection, this is kinda what it looked like;

The shitshow is headed to Missoula next year, and I've proposed that in opposition to the tradition of the winner getting a tattoo, that the winner either-

A) Gets a tattoo done by someone who's never done a tattoo before.

or

B) Tattoos themselves.

I'll rattle Missoula's cage about it again eventually, but I think it's a pretty good idea.

So in short, that's more or less what  this year's running of the SSCXWC looked like through my bleary lens. You'll have to hit up some other bike blog douchebag (same diff) if you'd prefer something about it that's a smidge more concise.

Now that we did all of those things, I'll happily hit you with the 249th episode of Revolting;

There's your mixed bag. Sort it out as you will.
