Working it out.

Working it out.

Sometimes you just have to fall to your knees and air punch, you know?

Hello and welcome to another week of what essentially boils down to me talking to myself.

With cyclocross bike racing over, no good weather on the horizon (at least in these parts), and another six to twelve weeks until I'm fully released to get into the shenanigans, I'm hard pressed to stay occupied.

One thing I've been lightly biding my time with is building out another little monster truck muscle car- this time being a 1966 Nova;

I'm just so enamored with these little guys, and once I get my tiny Lowcard and Antihero stickers from Bumpysticky,  it's gonna be ready for primetime.

In news of the world, I hate to belabor or exhaust the topic of current events, as sour as they are, but here's a thing from NYT columnist Ezra Klein I strongly encourage you to watch;

I do appreciate Ezra's take on this shitshow and giving it all a bit of breathing room and perspective has done wonders for my mental health.

In other news, after almost two years, a brand new My War has been released, and we're all better for it;

While I can clearly see that Ethan is a bit of a hothead, (which if I'm honest is a bit embarassing), I've never worked this hard for something, so I'm unfamiliar with the pressure. But I've also used this particular medium (skateboarding) as a thing of pleasure and escape, so Loy's exuberance is doubly unrelatable.

One thing I will say is that his commitment to a thing which he wasn't even sure was possible is enviable. I am a master of giving up. Ethan obviously is not.

In news of the Midwest madness, did you all know this just past weekend saw the billionth running of the world famous Stuporbowl?;

A couple of people defiantly won, and everyone else didn't. One thing I do know is that Andy from Trash Messenger Bags made this this absolute masterpiece for one of them;

Gadzooks, is this thing beautiful.

Just between you, me, and the wall, I have an order pending with Andy, because I've long coveted his work. In 2015 when I recovered from ACL surgery I bought myself my mountain bike. This time around, simply for being a brave strong boy and hardly crying at all, I got myself a bag. It only seems right.

Anyway, if you'd like to see more photos of Stuporbowl 26, all you gotta do is click here.

Now, because you're likely bored to tears with whatever else Ive had to offer, here is what may possibly be the newest episode of the Revolting podcast;

Love it or hate it.

Or go express yourself and air punch it out.

Hey man, on the last Revolting (other than the weird not-Revolting posted yesterday haha) you asked people to pass along an interpretation of getting your mind on with meditation. I’m gonna go with three things I think about as somebody who got into this about 13 years ago and stuck with it and its helped me tremendously.
1. first Bodhisattva vow is “beings are numberless, I vow to free them” and I read somewhere that it helps to add “… from my being an asshole” to that vow.
2. smarter people than me – like on that 10% happier book/pod you referred to – remind me that your brain will not stop talking, it secretes thoughts like a stomach absorbs beer. the point is to pay attention to what it is thinking and decide which are worth following and which you can go “ha fuck you, I’ve seen you a hundred times before” and bounce them.
3. my last go-to: dimensions. So much of the time we live in 5 dimensions, with imaginary future and re-written pasts blurring through our interpretation of what is going on, and I think of that as all the ability to move through space and time and all that shit. If I can get to 4 dimensions and I’m just moving through time like watching life go by and digging it, that’s even better. And on rare occasions maybe I think I’m exactly here and now and that’s just 3 dimensions. Your mileage may vary.
I can’t skate for shit and I’m afraid to start trying again at the advanced age of your age so I’m looking forward to the saddest of grinds you pull off when the leg is ready.

There’s still a couple of ‘cross races left. I think they’re getting sick of racing each other as there were a couple of minor dust ups/slap fights this past weekend. Look for vecha’s channel on the u tube.
