More tireder than usual.

More tireder than usual.

Let me start with a story of a recent trip across town on my bicycle, and how a small butterfly flapping its wings months ago resulted in an absolute tsunami this past weekend.

Also, please forgive the metaphor. I think I might have brain damage.

Anyhü, several months ago I burned the motor in one of my RC trucks, because it's more of a trail truck;

-but I was using it like a rock crawler, and so it died. Months go by and I kinda lose motivation to remedy the situation. Then recently (as described last week) I got the fire in my belly to start messing around with them again which resulted in going by the hobby store, picking up a new motor, and finally replacing the destroyed one. Washed over with a smug sense of satisfaction for doing a thing that had taken me months, I sat in the sun with a coffee and went about planning my day.

Still being plagued with a pinched nerve from my recent road trip, I decided to see if there were any massage therapists who I could maybe make a same day appointment with. Luckily there was one just down the street, so I went in to get my broken frame straightened. An hour and change later, I was riding back towards town when I came across a plasma donation center. A couple of years ago I met a woman who told me that she used to make pretty good money selling plasma, and I figured as long as I was there, I should investigate. I went in, did the physical, answered the questions, jumped through all of the hoops, and made an appointment for them to trade me cash for my precious life essence.

Cut to this past Thursday when they first drained me of the stuff, then I worked on Friday, slept none, woke up on Saturday, got another quart removed from my soul (which by the way, looks an awful lot like a trucker bomb);

Then worked again on Saturday, which left me feeling not a lot unlike this;
So. upon waking up at the head of the week, it dawned on me that I have little-to-no recollection of yesterday. Sleep walking is the closest thing I could describe my last 48 hours. This of course isn't to say that I'd discourage donating plasma, but certainly if you do, drink one million gallons of water, eat a ton of good food, and most importantly, deeply rest your body afterwords.

So, to my metaphor- Was me burning my motor the thing that set all of these wheels in motion? Was it meeting the woman who educated me about the process to begin with? Am I simply over thinking all of this because I've existed in a perpetual state of delirium for nearly four days?

Yes, and maybe.

So anyway, that's my saga. Getting on with my stuff- in news of classic cycling hodgepodge- Have yinzers heard that the classic 7-11 team kit is coming back for this year's running of the Liège–Bastogne–Liège?;
Also, I will go on record by saying in the nearly 18 years of managing this site, this video is far and above the corniest thing I've ever posted.

In other bikecycle action sports industry news, Erik and Josh reached out to let me know that Tin Shed In Nederland, Colorado is once again happily under the direction of some Ned locs, and are looking towards a grand re-opening on May 10th.

In part, the official email blast stated the following;

"Nederland’s favorite bike and ski shop was acquired by a Boulder-based company. While the intention was growth, the reality didn’t quite match the plan. A few wrong turns later, a group of local residents—longtime bikers, skiers, and community members—have come together to buy Tin Shed back and return it to what it’s always been: a community hub with a passion for the trails, slopes, and people of the Peak to Peak;

"Let’s just say… mistakes were made," said a representative of the new local ownership group. "But like any good Ned ride, sometimes you realize you’re horribly turned around—and it’s time to find your way back."

So if you're in the area, mark your calendars. Why, get to town early, ride some of their trails, and swing by Crosscut Pizza for some nourishment before the party.

Moving on to other non-bike related topics which one might like to mark their calendars for- It's come to my attention that not only do Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and OFF! frontman Keith Morris and I very nearly share a birthday together, but this coming fall, he's fixing to celebrate his in style;
Holy cats.

And though I've never been to the Hollywood Palladium, I do understand seeing any of those bands there would be an insanely surreal experience, plus you do know I loves me some RFTC.

Let's see, what else? Ah yes, though we mentioned it before, I would be remiss not to note that over there in The Cycling Independent Store we've got some new trucker hats;
If you don't get one, you're a fucking loser.

Moving on to other things- I sweet talked Doom into making me a new vest because when it's vest weather, I like to wear a layer or two underneath, and the vest I had was about a smidge too small. With two in hand, I put the original on the block and sold it straight away. All of this is to say, if you ever get an opportunity to get a Doom vest, don't sleep on it for all of the reasons;
Man, I love this thing.

And now to last things finally- Did you know I collaborate with a Robot person on a podcast called Revolting, and we have a brand new episode ready for consumption right now?;
It's the best one and then it's the worst one all wrapped up into one.

Or that might just be the sleep deprivation.

Any reminiscing about the 7/11 team that doesnt center Johnny T is obviously an AI hallucination.
